Guidelines for Improving School Climate and Discipline

The Department of Education has released guidelines to support improvement of school climate and reduction of discipline disparities. Elements of the guidelines focus on 3 core areas: (1) Climate and Prevention, (2) Appropriate expectations and consequences (including use of school safety officers to promote positive social expectations and not as a means to connect students to juvenile justice) and (3) Equity and Continuous Improvement.
